Rockslides, flooding prompts road closures on Oahu; Over 700 customers were without power in Kailua

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood advisory for Oahu on Saturday, Jan. 1. The weather has then prompted road closures and power outages.

According to HNL Info Alerts, Kapaa Quarry Road is closed in both directions between Kapaa Place and Mokapu Road due to flooding.

Additionally, Queen Street is closed from Ward Avenue to Kamakee Street because of heavy ponding. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes.

Hawaiian Electric (HECO) crews responded to a power outage in Kailua, according to the HECO Twitter page. Approximately 760 customers were without power, but as of 5:10 p.m., all power was restored.

A rockslide prompted the closure of Pali Highway townbound by Castle Junction. The closure was announced just after 12:10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 1. Drivers were advised to use alternate routes. The road has been opened, as of 5:51 p.m.
