HONOLULU (KHON2) — A motorcyclist is dead after an accident on the Moanalua Freeway, according to the Honolulu Police Department.

It happened around 9:30 a.m. Sunday, July 17 near the Ala Napuanani Street underpass.

EMS crews gave him life saving treatment and took him to the hospital in critical condition.

Police said he was later pronounced dead.

He was believed to have been wearing a helmet, according to police.

Police said speed appears to be a contributing factor in the collision, and it is unknown if drugs or alcohol are factors.

Moanalua Freeway east bound was closed from Red Hill. The road closure was announced just after 10 a.m. Sunday, July 17. The road has since reopened.
