KANEOHE, Hawaii (KHON2) — The Kaneohe Bay Drive onramp onto the H-3 Freeway toward Kaneohe Marine Corp Base was closed after a motorcyclist lost control and crashed off the roadway around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 7.
The motorcyclist — whom police identified as a 54-year-old man — was transported to a trauma hospital in critical condition with multiple injuries, according to Emergency Medical Services.
Medical officials said the motorcyclist sustained a critical head injury in addition to his other injuries.
According to Honolulu police, the man was riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle with a group of other riders heading westbound on Kaneohe Bay Drive. The 54-year-old tried to overtake another rider on the right in the vicinity of 44-275 Kaneohe Bay Dr., according to police, when he lost control for an unknown reason and crashed into a rock wall.
Police said speed, alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash. Officials reopened the road around 3:18 p.m. Saturday.
