Crews open 1 lane of Hwy. 11 after fallen utility pole prompts road closure, power outage

HILO, Hawaii (KHON2) — The Hawaii Department of Transportation reported Highway 11 at Peck Road was closed due to a fallen utility pole in the Mountain View area on the Big Island.

The closure was announced at 5:34 p.m. Friday, July 2.

The Hawaii County Civil Defense said one lane of Highway 11 was opened near mile marker 16 around 6 p.m.
The pole was felled due to a motor vehicle accident, officials said.

The Hawaii Electric Light Company (HELCO) said 725 customers were without power in Mountain View at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Crews were still responding to the outage at 6:20 p.m., according to HELCO.
