Saint Louis winning streak snapped to St. Thomas Aquinas

The streak is over for Saint Louis.

After winning 38 consecutive games, the Crusaders lost 35-19 to St. Thomas Aquinas of Florida at the GEICO State Champions Bowl Series on Saturday in Las Vegas.

The game started inauspiciously for Saint Louis as quarterback Jayden de Laura fumbled on the first play from scrimmage. On St. Thomas Aquinas’ first play right after, Antonio Johnson caught a 32-yard touchdown from Zion Turner.

The Crusaders were down 21-19 at halftime but were held scoreless in the second half. *de Laura finished 27-for-47 with with 273, three interceptions and two touchdowns to Roman Wilson and Koali Nishigaya.

Nick Herbig led the Saint Louis defense with multiple sacks, tackles for loss and a blocked punt.

For Saint Louis, the 38-game win streak is the second longest in school history. Its longest was 55 games from 1985 to 1990.
