Week two of the Hawaii High School Football schedule kicks off on Friday with 19-games across the state, where among the headliners will be an early Division-I clash of the titans on Saturday between Waipahu and Iolani.

The Marauders who last week had perhaps the biggest win of opening weekend with a 34-13 win over Waianae.

“You know, with Iolani, they are an amazing football team. They’re very well disciplined. They’re fast. They’re very well coached. Throw the football around a lot. So they pose something completely different than Waianae did. You know, where Waianae we knew coming in they were going to run the football. So we got to now adjust our game plan and make sure that we are ready for a completely different football team. And a very well coached one at that.” Marauders head coach Bryson Carvalho told KHON2’s Ren Clayton.

The victory marks as the first time a Division-I team beat an Open Division team in the new structuring of three divisions of Hawaii High School Football.

Quarterback Cody Marques threw for 218 yards and three touchdowns on 10-of-15 passing, while running back Alfred Failauga amassed 147 rushing yards and a TD on 29 carries for Waipahu in their opener.

“Like our coach said, not getting b it headed or anything. Just get ready for the next game. Whatever team we’re going to face, we should just have the same mindset going in and just not to be so cocky with any team we play and just move on from the win we had because any team is going to look forward to taking us out.” said Failauga.

As for the Raiders, they beat Kalani 63-0 where quarterback Jonah Chong was a perfect 8-for-8 passing for 136 yards and three touchdowns in the first quarter.

Kickoff between the Marauders and Raiders is set for 3:00pm on Saturday at Iolani’s Hamada Field.
