Mathematically still in contention for a Big West Conference championship, the University of Hawaii softball team will close out their regular season this week hosting UC Davis for a three game series starting on Thursday.
The home-finale will of course serve as the senior series for seven players, including a pair from Cerittos, California.
Jennifer Iseri and Heather Cameron have been softball teammates since the age of eight and after going through youth ball to high school and then to Hawaii, the ‘BFF’s’ have lived out their athletic dream in paradise.
“We just took grad pics together so we posted one of them on Instagram and people were commenting about how crazy it is that we went to elementary schools right across from each other, went to the same middle school, same high school, same college, same travel ball teams for softball and they just think that our journey together has been amazing and is very rare,” Iseri told KHON2 Sports Director Rob DeMello.
“It’s pretty much a dream come true. We were told when we were younger that we were probably never be able to play in college together because people don’t just get together and get scholarships together, you know? Being able to be on the same team since we were eight years old, we were able to get a lot closer,” added Cameron.
When asked how emotional senior night will be for the both of them, Iseri made it clear that the emotions will go far beyond softball.
“And especially because her parents are my parents now and my parents are her parents. We are definitely family and we have been since I can remember so it will definitely be very emotional.”
UH and UC Davis will square off in a rare Thursday night doubleheader on May 9 at 5:00 p.m., followed by a single game on Friday, May 10 at 7:00 p.m. Friday night is also Senior night for seven Rainbow Wahine-Heather Cameron, Brittany Hitchcock, Jennifer Iseri, Jenna Kumabe, Nicole Lopez, Carly Pina and Alyssa Sojka.
