‘Iolani’s Micah Yonamine became the fifth Hawaii high school graduate taken in the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft when the Philadelphia Phillies selected the catcher in the 29th round on Wednesday.

Yonamine, who led the state in home runs with 11 as a senior to go with a .500 batting average was taken with the 870th pick overall.

Yonamine is committed to play collegiately at Illinois State but told KHON2 Sports Director Rob DeMello after being drafted that he and his family will await an offer from the Phillies with the possibility of signing to play professionally.
