One of basketball’s most respected basketball trainers is headed for the islands this week to host multiple camps on O’ahu as Proformance Hawaii is hosting the Pure Sweat In Hawaii Camp.
Drew Hanlen is an NBA Strategic Skills Coach & Consultant that counts Bradley Beal (Washington Wizards), Joel Embiid (Philadelphia 76ers), Jayson Tatum (Boston Celtics), Zach LaVine (Chicago Bulls) & other NBA stars as full-time clients.
Derrick Low who is the co-founder of the Hawaii Development League has helped bring Hanlen to Hawaii for two days of camps that will serve coaches, parents and young athletes.
Low, who won multiple state championships at Iolani before an all-conference career at Washington State, spent more than a decade in pro basketball in the United States and overseas. He feels very strongly that the infusion of highlevel trainers and coaches will help develop the game of basketball in the state.
“Just speaking for myself, I go on the internet and I watch a couple of Drew’s videos and then I learn something. As long as I’ve been playing basketball at different levels there’s always something to be learned. I just encourage everyone to come out and just kind of soak it up. Soak it in. The client list is huge and he trains a lot of high-caliber players and they go to him for a reason. So I think it’s a very big treat for him to come to Hawaii and I just hope that people from Hawaii recognize that and take the opportunity,” Low told KHON2 Sports Director Rob DeMello.
The two-day camp begins on March 9 with a coaches and parents clinic at Iolani School. Registration is open to anyone involved in the development of our young aspiring basketball players.
The camp finale will be on March 10 when Hanlen will hit the court with boys and girls. Ages 12+.
