The University of Hawai’i women’s volleyball team (6-5, 2-0 Big West) returns to Honolulu to host their Big West home opening weekend. UH will take on Cal State Fullerton (6-9, 0-3 Big West) on Friday, Sept. 28 followed by UC Riverside (5-9, 0-3 Big West) on Saturday, Sept, 29. Both matches are slated to start at 7:00 p.m at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Hawai’i won their first two Big West matches on the road last week. On Friday, the Rainbow Wahine swept UC Davis 25-18, 25-21, 26-24, then on Sunday, UH fought back in a reverse-sweep at UC Irvine, 23-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-20, 15-11. Against the Aggies, junior middle hitter Natasha Burns led the ‘Bows with 13 kills and four blocks. Burns was efficient, hitting .455 (13-3-22). She led all players with 15.5 total points as well. She has had 10 or more kills in three of UH’s last six matches played.

In UH’s dramatic, come-from-behind, five-set win at UC Irvine, it was UH’s double “MAC-attack” that helped the ‘Bows battle back for the win. Senior outside hitter McKenna Granato led Hawai’i with her best match this year, recording season-highs of 24 kills, 15 digs and five service aces. With her 23 kills and 15 digs, she tallied her fifth double-double of the season. She had six of her 24 kills in the fifth set alone. In the win, Granato also recorded her 600th career dig. Fellow outside hitter McKenna Ross came in off the bench and sparked UH by pounding down a career-high 11 kills while hitting .294 (11-1-34). She was also just one dig away from her first double-double with nine digs.

About the Cal State Fullerton Titans (6-10, 0-3 Big West)
The Titans started the season well, winning their first six of seven matches. But since then, CSUF has dropped their last nine straight matches. On offense, senior Madeline Schneider leads the Titans with 184 kills and is averaging 3.54 kills per set. Haley Carmo has a team-high 43 total blocks. Controlling the offense is Courtney Mueller who has 285 assists  while Marshall Felicia has a team-high 112 digs.

About the UC Riverside Highlanders (5-9, 0-3 Big West)
The Highlanders are led on offense by Hilo-native Ka’iulani Ahuna with 213 kills—almost double the amount of her nearest teammate. Ahuna is averaging 5.07 kills per set. But, Ahuna was injured last week at Long Beach State and will be a gameday decision. UCR’s second leading player on offense is Yuliya Ushakova who has 120 kills and averages 2.14 k/set. Ushakova also leads the Highlanders with 14 service aces and 39 blocks. On offense, Chelsea Doyle has dished out 550 assists. UCR has four players already with 100 digs with Doyle leading all players with 197 digs.
