Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell declared May 15th 2019 North American Boxing Federation week.

The NABF is holding its 51st annual convention in Waikiki.

The proclamation followed up a meeting with members of the NABF and the World Boxing Council which included the president of the WBC Mauricio Sulaiman.

“We’re committed to bringing back boxing from the ground all the way to the great championship fights,” said Sulaiman.

Midway through the meeting, Sulaiman presented an idea he called the ‘Herbert Min Four-Round Challenge.’ A tournament he described as a chance for young boxers in Hawaii to gain experience and exposure.

Mayor Caldwell’s response: “I love that. You tell us how to do that.”

At the end of the meeting the mayor was presented with a WBC championship belt with his face alongside famed boxers such ans Muhammed Ali.

“I’m sure we will go home with a piece of our heart warmly remembering these days in Hawaii,” said Sulaiman.
