The highly anticipated showdown between Hawaii welterweights and cousins Ray Cooper III and Zane Kamaka will take place on Thursday in the Professional Fighters League’s 2019 season opener in New York.
The bout though which already featured hype of a family feud had more drama added to it on Wednesday as Kamaka missed weight by two pounds.
Missing the 170-pound limit costs Kamaka 20-percent of his purse and also gives Cooper the automatic three points for victory towards the season standings which will culminate with a playoff tournament that leads to the division championship and $1-million grand prize.
Cooper, had the option to take the win and not fight, but he elected to still take the fight which will count towards the career records of both and give himself a chance to earn another three pints with a finish by submission or knockout.
The televised fight card will get underway on Thursday at 3:00pm HST on ESPN2.
