University of Hawai’i senior pitcher Brittany Hitchcock earned her second straight and fifth career Big West Softball Pitcher of the Week award on Monday. Hitchcock recorded both to help Hawai’i capture the series at CSUN for the first time since 2015.
The right-hander from Huntington Beach, Calif. posted a 2-0 record with a 1.40 ERA, allowing four runs (three earned) in 15.0 innings of work. She earned complete game victories in her two starts over the weekend.
In the opener, Hitchcock threw all eight innings, scattering eight hits and allowing an unearned run in the 2-1 victory. She walked one and struck out one. Hitchcock returned to the circle for the series finale and surrendered seven hits and three runs with no walks and one strikeout in the 4-3 final.
The three combined strikeouts over the weekend brought her career total to 494 which pushed into up to No. 4 in the school record books. She already is ranked at No.4 with 74 wins, No. 4 with 87 complete games. She also rose to No. 3 in appearances with 137 and No. 2 in games started with 122 career starts.
Hitchcock improved to 19-7 on the season, tying her career high for wins in a season. She has thrown 20 complete games with six shutouts in 156.1 innings with a 1.75 ERA this season. She leads the Big West in walk-to-strikeout ratio with 23 walks and 95 strikeouts.
This week, Hawai’i returns home to host UC Davis in their final series of the season. The two teams will square off in a rare Thursday doubleheader on May 9 starting at 5:00 p.m. followed by a single game on Senior Night on Friday, May 10 beginning at 7:00 p.m.
