Two months after an impressive showing at Bellator Hawaii, Hilo’s Toby Misech will enter the cage at Bellator 215 this weekend in Connecticut.
Misech (11-6), who goes by the nickname “2 Quick”, defeated Edward Thommes via third-round TKO on Bellator’s Salute The Troops card at the Neal Blaisdell Center.
Following that performance, he got the call from Bellator matchmaker Richard Chou recently as a late-notice replacement to fight former Bellator bantamweight champion Eduardo Dantas (20-6).
The fight for Misech, is a dream answered. With a victory on Friday at the Mohegan Sun, the 30-year old would legitimately find himself in the organization’s title picture.
“As of right now I’m just trying to look at it as another fight. I’m not trying to let the after-affects affect me, so I’m just looking at him as a regular opponent and making the best of this opportunity,” Misech told KHON2 Sports Director Rob DeMello.
“Rich could have gotten anybody else in the world and even closer to Connecticut instead of flying a Hilo boy, but knowing that he did and putting me with somebody like Dantas, yeah that gives me a lot of confidence that I know I’m pretty sure that he wouldn’t want to fly out somebody that he didn’t think would have a good chance and put on a one-sided show for Dantas,” added Misech.
Nicknamed “2-Quick” Misech is also using the highest profile fight of his career as a chance to showcase his home island as a victory would help his crusade of getting more opportunities for fighters out of Hilo.
“We have some talent that needs to be seen, so hopefully this opens their eyes to bring out more Hilo boys,” said Misech. “it’s been a long time since BJ Penn first came onto the scene. A lot of people have forgotten about the talent that Hilo produces. I want to remind everybody.”
Misech’s bout against Dantas will be aired live nationally on the Paramount Network. Locally, the main card will be televised on tape-delay with a start time of 7:00pm HST.
