For the first time in the history of St. Joseph School in Hilo, an alumnus was taken in the Major League Baseball Draft as Edgar Barclay was selected in the 15th round by the New York Yankees.
Barclay, who is a junior left-hander at Cal State Bakersfield was taken with 465th overall pick.
Earlier this year, Barclay returned to Hawaii to pitch a one-hit shutout against the Rainbow Warriors.
Barclay finished his junior season with a 6-4 record to go with a 3.68 ERA having struck out 111 batters in 90.1 innings.
Barclay, who received the call while with family in Hilo, anticipates signing with the club and beginning his professional career.
