Hawaii men’s volleyball set-streak up to 24

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The second-ranked University of Hawaiʻi men’s volleyball team wrapped up its trip to the state of North Carolina with a 3-0 win over Queens (NC) on Saturday at the Levine Center. Set scores were 25-7, 25-16, 25-10.
The victory gives the Rainbow Warriors (8-0) their best start to a season under head coach Charlie Wade. UH remains perfect on the season with two more matches left on the schedule before the Big West opener on March 1.
UH utilized a balanced attack versus Queens (2-9) with 10 different players recording kills on the day. Brett Rosenmeier and Filip Humler posted eight kills apiece to lead the offense, while Jakob Thelledished out a season-high 22 assists. Defensively, Patrick Gasman picked up six block assists despite playing just the first set.
The Warriors cruised in the first highlighted by five kills from Gasman while hitting .667. UH continued its dominance into the second set in what turned out to be the most highly contested of the day. The Warriors scored seven of the first eight points in the third set to seize control. With Humler serving, UH scored six points in a row to put the set out of reach.
Hawai’i hit .423 on the day with Queens finishing -.039. Nic Cavallaro led the Royals offense with seven kills.
Next up, the Rainbow Warriors return to the Stan Sheriff Center to host Lincoln Memorial on Friday, Feb. 15 (5:00 p.m.) and Sunday, Feb. 17 (7:00 p.m.).
