Former UH star Kolten Wong named finalist for MLB Gold Glove Award

On Thursday, Major League Baseball and Rawlings announced the finalists for the 2018 Gold Glove awards. 

Among the players in the running for what would be his first career honor is Hilo’s Kolten Wong.

The Former University of Hawaii All-American and Cardinals second baseman dazzled all season long, considered by many as baseball’s best defensive player at his position.

In 119-games, the 27-year-old recorded 306 assists with 165 pout-outs, turning 73 double-plays with just nine errors in 480 chances at a fielding percentage of .981. 

Each position has three finalists, with the winner being decided on a vote by managers and coaches. 

Voters are not allowed to pick their own players. Rawlings has also introduced a statistical aspect to the process in recent years. 

The winners will be announced on November 4.
