Two champions were crowned in the Stan Sheriff center on Saturday on a night full of fast pced action, jubilation, for some, controversy.
In Division II, Hawaii Baptist defeated Seabury Hall 43-39 to win their second state championship. Junior Guard Alexis Dang led the way for HBA with 12 points, 3 rebounds,, 3 assists, and 3 steals.
This was Seabury Halls’ first and only loss of the season but look to build upon next year as they will have all but one senior return for another shot at the title.
Top seeded Iolani in Division I are state campions once again for the first time since 1996 as they defeated KS-Kapalama 52-49 in a classic at Stan Sheriff. However, controversy may be the talk of the championship game.
Senior Kalina Obrey who had an amazing showing as she scored 24 points and 10 rebounds heaved up a last second three that would have tied the game and send it to overtime. It was not meant to be as the officials ruled that the shot was released just as time had expired.
Nevertheless, the battle for the Division I and II state championships did not disappoint and all four teams left all they had on the hardwood.
