Throwback Thursday: Crusader running back Chris Fuamatu-Maafala

Throwback Thursday

Tonight, we take the Cover2 time machine back to 1994, when Chris Fuamatu-Maafala made Bo Jackson in Tecmo Bowl look like level one on Zelda.

The running back in what many call the most impressive Saint Louis team of all time made the most of his 93 carries on the season, rushing for 883 yards, gaining nearly 10 yards a rush en route to an undefeated season and ninth consecutive prep bowl title for the Crusaders.

After high school, Fuamatu-Maafala continued the rampage at the University of Utah, where he was first-team All-WAC performer before becoming an NFL fan favorite, spending six of his seven pro seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, scoring 10 career touchdowns.

Today, he works for the U.S. Army, running the youth sports and fitness program for military keiki.

Still proud to be from Mayor Wright housing, the father of five now resides in Mililani, where you can find him on the soccer fields as it’s his kids turn to tear up the turf.
