Kailua head coach Joe ‘Hauoli’ Wong has a strong vision for his team.
“First and foremost, it has to start with the Division I OIA title. Then, of course, the pinnacle is to win the state, and we’ve talked before about the dominance of this program from year’s past when Darren Johnson was there, Alex Kane was there, Coach Kahawai was there. We’re just trying to build and bring that culture back there, and teach them the legacy of this program that they’re in.”
The S doesn’t just stand for Surfriders. Many also compare it to Superman.
“It’s about putting that S on your chest in everything that you do, whether you’re in the classroom, in the weight room, out on the football field, or out in the community, you have to bleed blue, and bleeding blue means you’re trying to do all the right things.”
