The Dept. of Public Safety reports that a Laumaka work furlough inmate went missing Monday night.

Michael Jay returned from a furlough pass at about 9 p.m. and was summoned to meet with staff and told to wait in the holding room. Instead, he ran out the front door.

HPD and Sheriffs were immediately notified.

Jay is serving time for Attempted Assault 1 and Criminal Property Damage 1. He was tentatively approved by the parole board for parole release on Dec. 13, 2016. He faces an escape charge when found.

Jay is 37, 5-foot-7, 124 lbs., with brown eyes and brown hair. He also has several tattoos around his neck. He was last seen wearing a white hoodie and white cargo shorts.

Anyone who sees him is urged to call 911 or Sheriffs at 586-1352.

Laumaka is a minimum security work furlough center for community custody inmates and is located a block away from OCCC. Inmates assigned to Laumaka are either actively seeking employment or working in the community.
