Work furlough escapee arrested after two days on the run

The Department of Public Safety confirmed that missing work furlough inmate Robert Yamaguchi was arrested by Honolulu Police on Thursday.  He left the Laumaka Work Furlough Center at about 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19.  He was not authorized to leave. Once processed he will be returned to Public Safety custody.  The Honolulu Police Department assisted in capturing Yamaguchi.

Yamaguchi is serving time for Unauthorized Control of a Propelled Vehicle, Promoting a Dangerous Drug, Unlawful Use of Drug Paraphernalia and Bail Jumping. His next parole hearing is scheduled for August of this year. He now faces an additional escape charge.

Yamaguchi is a community custody inmate in the work furlough program with pass privileges. Community custody is the lowest classification status.
