Wind-fueled brush fire came close to East Honolulu home

News

The Honolulu Fire Department says the winds helped fuel two brush fires in Mariners Ridge in East Honolulu Friday night.

The first call came in around 6 p.m.

HFD said a resident smelled smoke and immediately called 911.

HFD units responded to Kaluanui Road and found flames that were about 35 feet from a home.

Firefighters were able to contain that fire before it spread.

They also battled a brush fire that was higher on the ridge.

Officials say no structures were damaged and no one was hurt.

They say the fires were caused by down power lines.
