A visitor from China was reported missing from the Twin Falls area in Haiku.
Rescue crews got the call around 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
When firefighters got there, bystanders were doing CPR on the 21-year-old woman who was visiting from China.
Bystanders searching the pond found the woman submerged underwater below a waterfall, about a couple hundred yards mauka of Hana Highway. The woman was unresponsive and without a pulse when bystanders began CPR.
Fire crews and paramedics took over life-saving efforts and carried the woman back to Hana Highway after she regained vital signs. The woman was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition.
The woman was swimming at the pond with her husband when the accident occurred.
