(WCAV/CNN) — A Virginia woman is sharing her journey of losing 130 pounds and reversing diabetes with others.
Every day is about getting up and moving now for Charlottesville fitness instructor Myra Anderson.
“I’ve been so motivated by my own fitness that I completely, a couple months ago, shifted careers and started to work in a fitness business,” she said.
A stark change from what life used to be. “A doctor that saw me suggested I have weight loss surgery, and I kind of frowned at that idea, but I realized that I needed to make a concerted effort to lose my weight.”
It was even affecting Anderson’s health. “I had also been diagnosed with diabetes and high cholesterol and so I was on medication.”
Anderson never did have that weight loss surgery — instead, she exercised daily and lost a whopping 130 pounds on her own.
Her story will featured in the American Diabetes Association’s magazine Diabetes Forecast. now it’s landing her some national attention.
Anderson no longer has to take any medication, and now she’s looking to inspire others through a business teaching group exercise anywhere from churches to Zumba, changing lives one day at a time.
“If I can do it, so can you,” she said.
