The USS Mississippi, a Virginia-class submarine, recently returned from a 6-month deployment in the Western Pacific.
This morning on Wake Up 2day, Petty Officers Joel Brock and Tanner White joined us in studio to talk about their experiences.
Brook said they are very happy to be home again and were excited to breathe fresh air, enjoy the warm sunshine, the hiking, and beaches.
While we were deployed 13 sailors earned their “Dolphins” which is another way of saying their warfare device. That is important because it signifies that they are proficient in all aspects of the boat and can be depended on. It is a significant milestone for a submariner. We also had 19 people be advanced to a higher rank. In the Navy higher rank means more responsibility and 19 members of our crew have been recognized as ready for that greater responsibility.
