US Sen. Mazie Hirono discusses potential government shutdown, recent visit to Texas border

News

Lawmakers in Washington D.C. are running out of time to strike a deal and avoid a partial government shutdown.

They have until midnight Friday to reach an agreement.

President Trump insists that any bill should include at least $5 billion for a border wall, a demand that Democrats are rejecting.

US Sen. Mazie Hirono recently visited the Texas border to visit with immigrant children and families. She weighed in on the border wall bill Tuesday in a live interview on Wake Up 2day.

Meanwhile, members of the US House are on break and return to work on Wednesday.

One idea that’s being floated is a short-term spending bill that would continue funding through next month.

It’s unclear if President Trump would sign a measure like that.
