Maui firefighters responded to two separate incidents today in which swimmers were pulled from the ocean unresponsive in West Maui.
The first incident occurred at 9:47 am this morning at the beach fronting the Sheraton Maui resort. Beachgoers pulled a 31 year old male visitor from the water and began CPR efforts. MFD’s Ladder 3 from Lahaina arrived on scene just a few minutes later and found the victim had regained a pulse and was breathing on his own. Medics transported the victim to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition.
The second incident occurred at 12:15 pm this afternoon at the beach fronting the Napili Kai resort. Beachgoers pulled a 30 year old female visitor from the water and began administering CPR. A fire crew from Napili arrived on scene and took over CPR efforts. The victim was transported to Maui Memorial Center in critical condition.
Ocean conditions were reported to be calm at the time for both incidents. Both victims are believed to be visitors from China.
