Some callers to the Honolulu Police Department’s 911 service on Oahu were unable to get through for a short while Tuesday afternoon.

The department said an outage that impacted its communications division was discovered at around 4 p.m. It lasted for about a half-hour.

HPD immediately notified Hawaiian Telcom of the issue. A preliminary investigation determined that the outage was caused by technical issues.

Hawaiian Telcom says it is monitoring the system to ensure all calls go through.

Anyone who called 911 during the outage was called back.
