Former University of Hawai’i All-American pitcher Steven Wright was named to the American League All-Star team Tuesday.
Wright’s selection is the first MLB All-Star nod for a former Rainbow baseball player.
The Boston Red Sox knuckleballer is 2nd in the AL with a 2.42 earned run average.
The 2006 2nd round selection of the Cleveland Indians out of UH had began the season unsure of a spot in Boston’s rotation, but he pounced on innings in April due to injuries.
Wright has compiled a 9-5 record with 87 strikeouts in 108 innings pitched.
The Major League Baseball All-Star game is scheduled for Tuesday, July 12th at 2:00pm HST. The game will air live on KHON2.
