Starbucks employees get across-the-board pay raises

There were likely some happy employees at your local Starbucks this Monday morning.

Pay raises – between five and 15 percent – took effect for 157,000 workers in the U.S.

In July, Starbucks announced base pay hikes of at least five percent for employees at approximately 7,600 company-owned stores in the country. There was also a doubling of company stock awards for workers of two years or more.

CEO Howard Schultz said in a letter back in July that the amount of the raise will be determined by geographic and market factors.

Salary tracking website says employees average $9.35 an hour, with shift supervisors averaging more than $11.

Customers might be helping to cover some of the pay raises. In July, Starbucks raised the price of some of its drinks, up to as much as 30 cents.
