Sneak peek at Nordstrom’s new Ewa Wing store

Nordstorm has only been in its current location for eight years, but representatives say they couldn’t pass up the opportunity to anchor the new Ewa Wing Expansion at Ala Moana Center.

Nordstrom wants to make sure shoppers feel at home in its new store. There are new wood finishings and free charging stations, not to mention clothing and shoes from national and local designers.

Nordstrom representative Pamela Lopez says her company is very happy with the new 186,000-square-foot space. “We’ve learned a lot about serving customers over the years and we’re really excited to take some of those learnings and apply them to the new store,” she said.

The new location will feature Ruscello, an all-new, full-service restaurant that replaces Nordstrom Cafe.

According to head chef Ala Sutton, it will still bring menu items and the entire staff from the cafe, and will also include a rooftop patio.

“About 60 percent of the menu we’re bringing over from (the cafe), so a lot of favorites, a lot of the regulars will still be available,” he said. “(There will be) more entrees, more pizzas, so it’s definitely a step up. It’s one of the biggest things Nordstrom’s done in the company’s history.”

Something you’ll notice in the new Nordstrom is the abundance of natural light. Lopez said they wanted to give it more of an outdoor feel.

“So things like bringing in natural light, we’ve added a lot more warm finishes, like natural wood,” she said. “We’ve made our stores a lot more flexible and we’ve also added what we hope are a lot more convenient items in the store.”

Even though shoppers aren’t able to experience the store’s new open concept cosmetics section and updated open layout until Friday, shoppers like Doris Artega are already getting excited. “I think the store is really nice. I’m actually really excited to go in,” she said.

A sold-out gala and fundraising event will be held Tuesday night. Nordstrom will be covering all the costs, and hopes to raise more than $120,000 for Aloha United Way.

The new Nordstrom opens Friday, March 11, at 9:30 a.m. Before that, from 8-9:30 a.m., the store will host a Beauty Bash for customers outside Mall Level Two, Diamond Head Entrance (Nordstrom Level One, near the Gelato Bar).

This is a high-energy, early morning party where beauty advisors will share information on new products, trends for spring and offer complimentary makeup lessons and consultations. The first 1,000 attendees will receive an exclusive, reusable beauty tote bag, while supplies last.
