Saint Francis varsity football head coach resigns after forfeited season

The head coach of Saint Francis School’s varsity football team has resigned.

Head of school, Dr. Casey Asato, announced Friday that Kip Akana has stepped down after running the program for four years.

His resignation comes after the team had to forfeit a 9-0 season for having an ineligible player on the roster.

Akana also headed the intermediate program through the 2012 to 2014 seasons.

He will continue as head coach of the Saint Francis varsity baseball team, the school said.

Saint Francis, which was founded in 1924, became a coed institution in 2006 and began varsity male sports programs at the state of the current decade.
