University of Hawaii Head Football Coach Nick Rolovich announced after Monday’s practice that Sophomore Dru Brown will be the starting quarterback for Saturday’s Mountain West Conference opener against Nevada at Aloha Stadium.
Rolovich said senior Ikaika Woolsey, who started the first four games, will be the No. 2 quarterback.
Brown, who played in three games off of the bench has completed 53% of his passes, rushing for 82 yards and a touchdown, and according to Rolovich, who was once a JC transfer at Hawaii himself, Brown’s comprehension of the offense has caught up to his poise and athleticism.
“he got better and better and better within the offense and his comfort level with the team. He’s not a real outgoing personality, so I think it took a little bit longer for the guys to get to know him, but, all they see is how he works and he’s here to play quarterback” said Rolovich.
“i’m pretty excited that I got the job, but, I have a ways to go. I’m not going to get complacent. I’m going to keep doing what I’ve done to get to where I’m at right now.” said Brown.
Kickoff between the Rainbow Warriors and Wolfpack is set for Saturday, 6:00pm at Aloha Stadium. The game will be televised on OC Sports Pay Per View.
