Rail construction has finally reached the airport, which means people will start to see closures in the area.
According to the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transport or HART, closures began on Monday. The closures will mostly take place at night.
The first major road closure is the one at the entrance to the lei stands and the rental car drop off area on Ala Onaona Street.
That turn will be closed overnight from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.
People who want to drop of their rental car will have to go all the way around the Terminal 1 and International Parking Garages to get where they want to go.
These closures will continue through to May 7th.
The second major closure will be along Aolele Street. The eastbound right lane will be closed 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, until construction is completed, and additional lanes on street may also close throughout the night.
The right two lanes exiting the Terminal 2 parking garage will also be closed.
This work will last until June.
We’re still waiting to hear back from HART on construction plans going into the summer – one of the busiest time of the year for the airport.
