Recap: Red Raiders, Rams roll to state championship wins


Kahuku (13-0) – 39 Saint Louis (9-2) – 14

Koa Trophy number eight is home on the North Shore of Oahu Saturday after Kahuku won the gigantic HHSAA state football division I championship game over Saint Louis Friday night 39-14.

Kahuku, who came in sporting statistically the best defense in Hawai’i high school history held Cover2 Tommy Kaulukukui offensive player of the year Tua Tagovailoa to just 190 total yards.

The Red Raider secondary was second to none, notching three interceptions of Tagovailoa.

On offense, Kahuku’s clock control game kept the Crusader on the field for the majority of the game. The Red Raiders piled up 189 yards of rushing, including quarterback Kesi Ah-Hoy’s three touchdown runs.Radford (13-0) – 30 Kapa’a (9-1) – 16

In division II, Radford stormed back from a 16-14 halftime deficit to cruise past Kapa’a 30-16.

The Rams leaned on runningback Ace Faumui in the second half. 45 of his 60 yards rushing were on a long fourth quarter touchdown run that put the game out of reach.

Radford’s championship is the school’s first football title since the 1981 prep bowl.
