A familiar face is behind a new eatery at Aloha Tower Marketplace.
Pier Nine by Sam Choy is Hawaii Pacific University’s student dining facility, but it’s also open to the public.
The 142-seat restaurant is modeled after an open marketplace, and features a buffet with menu items that change daily.
“It’s a real interesting concept. It’s a cafeteria-like atmosphere, but yet we have some real good quality food, and the price is great,” said Choy.
The facility opened for students earlier this year, and now, the public is welcome to dine as well.
Guests are able to create their own salad or panini for a lighter meal, or enjoy a featured special meal from Choy with custom menu items featured throughout the restaurant.
“The food here is really good, and the people that work here are amazing. They all are very caring and they take care of us all,” said student Anna Shedlowsky.
“We needed a place that students could break bread with the community and we thought, who better to partner with than Sam Choy, someone who cooks with aloha, and whose food really does bring people together,” said John Gotanda, HPU president. “What I like about it is it’s very open, and… you have so many different varieties and things to choose from. There’s something really for everyone here.”
Prices for the public are breakfast $10, lunch $15, and dinner $18 for an all-you-can-eat meal.
