Power restored to 8,000 in Kaneohe

Power has been restored to some 8,000 customers in Kaneohe.

The outage occurred at around 1:10 p.m. Friday and lasted about a hour.

No word yet on what caused the outage.

Maui Mayor Victorino’s rule changes start Tuesday, what people can expect

HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Hawaii Gov. David Ige approved Maui County Mayor Mike Victorino’s request to modify retail store capacity and to require travelers to download the "Aloha Safe Alert" app. The changes will take effect on Tuesday, Jan. 19.

Both big-box stores and smaller retailers will need to limit their capacity to 30%. If the maximum capacity of a store is under 50, however, they will need to calculate how many people can be inside based on its size.

Hawaii north shores brace for 50-foot waves

HONOLULU (KHON2) -- The waves on Oahu's North Shore will only get bigger overnight and into the morning of Saturday, Jan. 16. Lifeguards are ready for dangerous situations and advising onlookers not to get too close to the water.

Surfer Alden Funk said, he already felt the force from the waves by the evening of Friday, Jan. 15.

Big Island police successfully resolve barricade situation

NANAWALE, Hawaii (KHON2) -- A 65-year-old Puna man was taken into police custody on Friday, Jan. 15, following a standoff that lasted nearly 24 hours and caused nearby residents to evacuate from the Nanawale Subdivision.

Officials say, Dean Hisao Jones, of Puna, barricaded himself in the residence of a former acquaintance during the afternoon of Thursday, Jan. 14, after he allegedly discharged a firearm outside of a home on Plumeria Street.
