The two-time mayor and former civil defense administrator Harry Kim has his headquarters at his Hilo home, keeping his campaign efforts more of a personal effort.
“He’s gone all over the island, because he’s on his own, he has his own time schedule…,” said his wife Bobbie Kim.
She jokes “[volunteers ask] ‘can we go wave with Harry?’ we don’t know where he is!”
Harry says the efforts are what keep voters engaged.
“The message is simple… they know what I stand for, they don’t question that,” he said.
Harry Kim faces first-time politician Wally Lau.
