CrimeStoppers and the Honolulu Police Department would like to inform the public about an extortion scam that is occurring via telephone.

There have been cases recently where victims are receiving phone calls from unknown people stating that they have kidnapped their loved ones and demand a ransom.

In one case, the victim received a phone call from his wife’s phone number which had been spoofed. The victim believed the person on the phone because it appeared that the call had originated from his wife’s phone.

If you receive these types of calls, please do your best to confirm that your loved ones are safe. Do not pay the ransom and contact police to file a report.
