Owner fined after dogs died off Kaena Point

There is a fine for the owner of two dogs that died after being found off Kaena Point over the summer.

One of the dogs was already dead, and the Hawaiian Humane Society said the other was so severely injured and emaciated, he had to be put down.

Their owner, Heather Maynard was cited for animal cruelty and animal desertion.

After pleading no contest, Maynard was ordered to pay a fine of $400.

The Hawaiian Humane Society says it’s disappointed; it was hoping for a harsher punishment.
