Officer’s presence required for future evening events at Papakolea Community Park

A uniformed Honolulu Police Department officer is now required at all special events with 100 attendees or more that take place after 4 p.m. at Papakolea Community Park and Center.

The new policy was established Tuesday during a special meeting of the Papakolea Community Development Corporation Board of Directors.

The change comes after a fight broke out during a graduation party there Saturday night. Four teenagers and a 43-year-old man were taken to the hospital.

Two suspects have been charged in connection with the fight. Slade Tuilata-Nakila, 22, is charged with attempted murder and assault, while Dylan Misiluti, 23, is charged with assault.

Residents say this type of incident is unusual for the area.

“The purpose of mandatory police security is to maintain order, provide security, facilitate traffic flow, take action against violations of the law, and enforce PCDC rules and regulations,” the corporation stated in a press release.
