Oahu residents seek answers for mysterious squiggly lines in the sky

KHON2 has received a lot of calls about squiggly lines in the sky Wednesday evening.

Several viewers in West and Central Oahu sent us pictures through the Report It feature on our website.

We’re still trying to confirm what caused the lines, but they do look very similar to what we saw in 2014, when a missile flight test on Kauai left streaks of light in the sky.

The U.S. Missile Defense Agency confirms that at around 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, a medium-range ballistic target missile was launched from the Pacific Missile Range Facility on Kauai.

The USS John Paul Jones tracked the target missile and launched its own guided missile, which failed to intercept the target.

However, officials could not confirm whether the unusual sky sightings were linked to the missile test.

Once we know for sure, we’ll let you know.
