Nishiura captures inaugural Manoa Cup women’s title, Open division final set

The 108th edition of the Manoa Cup debuted its first-ever women’s division this year and saw a new champion on Friday at Oahu Country Club.

Mililani native Mari Nishiura defeated Honolulu’s Aiko Leong (2 and 1) in the final round of the Manoa Cup women’s division to become the first women’s champion.

In the Manoa Cup men’s open division semifinal on Friday, Moanalua graduate Brent Grant eliminated Mililani’s Justin Tapara (5 and 3). Wailuku native Justin Ngan also advanced to the final round after beating Honolulu native Shawn Lu (2 and 1).

Baldwin High School student Ngan will face Brent Grant in Saturday’s final round of the Manoa Cup with a title on the line. The pair will tee off at 7 a.m. at Oahu Country Club.
