New dinosaur species discovered in China (think Velociraptor with wings)

(CNN) A fascinating discovery in China has dinosaur and “Jurassic” fans chomping at the bit.

An incredibly well-preserved fossil reveals an animal that scientists say is a close cousin of the Velociraptor, but with long feathers on its arms and tail.

Scientists say “Zhenyuanlong suni” lived about 125 million years ago in what is now China.

They say the fossil is the latest evidence of a well-established link between dinosaurs and modern birds, though its feathers are believed to be more decorative than functional.
