Facebook gets rid of 5.4 billion fake accounts


HONOLULU (KHON2) — About 5.4 billion fake accounts were removed, but the social media giant says millions likely remain.

Facebook said that as many as five percent of the platform’s monthly users are fake, despite efforts to catch fake accounts the moment they’re created.

This highlights some of the challenges social media companies face ahead of the high-stakes 2020 election.
