Mokulele Airlines is expanding its operation to begin serving California next month.
Starting May 23, the airline will offer daily flights between Imperial County Airport (IPL) and Los Angeles (LAX).
The airline already operates in Pennsylvania under Sun Air Express, but this will be its first mainland operation under the Mokulele brand.
“What we’ve been invited to bring to California is exactly what made Mokulele Airlines such a success here – highly competitive prices, convenient schedules, great service, and on time flights,” said Mokulele president Rob McKinney. “To say thanks, any kamaaina flying Mokulele in California will receive a 25-percent discount when they show their Hawaii I.D. And of course their pets will fly free.”
The airline is offering an introductory rate of $30 for all seats. Regular fares will range between $49 and $99.
McKinney says the company is looking to expand even more, with talks to fly into several other cities in California and the Pacific Northwest.
Mokulele currently offers more than 120 daily flights to Oahu, Molokai, Maui, and Hawaii Island, and McKinney assures residents there are no plans to cancel operations in Hawaii. “Absolutely not. Our roots are in Hawaii. Mokulele will always be Hawaii-based,” he told KHON2.
Kids under the age of 11 receive a 25-percent discount, pets fly for free, and military discounts are available. The first checked bag costs $20.
