Mixed Plate: The many picturesque ports of the Mediterranean

News

There are actually 21 countries on three continents bordering the Mediterranean Sea.

Just the word Mediterranean conjures images of fashionable riviera ports and seaside hamlets carved into hillsides.

It’s impossible to visit all of them in one trip, but we tried anyway.

A safe harbor awaits off the starboard bow, but don’t blink. Some of these treasures are well hidden, and for good reason. Pirates and plunderers for centuries have taken sanctuary in the well-protected
coves of Montenegro, behind the towers and turrets of Croatia, between the mountainous islands of Greece.

Keeping these destinations a secret was all but impossible, lucky for us.

Today, all ports are welcoming, each with a different culture, language, and cuisine.

We’ll have to take ours to go, because we’ve got a boat to catch in Capri.

See all the colors and moods of this vast, mysterious region in Mixed Plate Mediterranean, this Wednesday, Nov. 21, at 9:30 p.m. on KHON2.
