The military conducted a controlled blast in Nanakuli Tuesday evening.
We received word at 6:07 p.m. that the blast would occur at 6:15 p.m. on Farrington Highway and could be heard for several miles.
The owner of PVT Land Company landfill told us workers were digging around the property when they came across the explosive. They’re not sure how it got there, but believe it’s been there for some time.
According to an Army official, an Army Explosives Ordnance Disposal team identified it as a 1.55 mm World War II round.
The team determined it was safe to set off at the site.
