News

The Senate Ways and Means Committee today passed a measure to raise the general excise tax by half percent to help pay for education.

The bill now heads to the full Senate for a vote next Tuesday. Senator Brian Taniguchi introduced the bill. He says the increase could generate up to $350 million. At least $200 million of that would be earmarked for public schools and $50 million for higher education.
